It's easier than you think to become a published author. Here are Michael's Six Steps To Becoming a Published Author:
Step One. You and Michael will meet to determine the right book for you right now. Is it a memoir? A book about a particular issue or cause that matters deeply to you? Or something else altogether?
We'll talk about the real reason for writing a book right now...how it fits in strategically with your other business or professional interests...and how to define success with the book.
Step Two. We'll meet twice or three times for one to two hours in order for Michael to gain information that will go in the book proposal. The book proposal is document that explains to publishers exactly what the book is about.
Step Three. After you and Michael sign off on the finished book proposal, a literary agent, either Michael's or your own, will bring the book to the publishing houses.
Step Four. The goal is that one or more houses will make an offer to buy the rights to publish your book. You, your representatives, and the literary agent will review the terms of the offer to make sure that it matches with your needs and desires.
Step Five. Michael will interview you at length, by phone or in person, to gather the information for the book. Michael will write a draft of the book for your consideration and will revise it with you and with the editor at the publishing house responsible for the book.
Time frame: Generally, a book proposal will be ready in less than a month. It typically takes the publishers a month or so to decide if they are interested in a book. It then takes four to six months to complete the book. Publishers generally publish books within two to six months of completion. So it can take a little more than a year from your first meeting with Michael to have your book in your hands.
